letter13: HAPPY 2018!

Dear Tim,
Time flies like an arrow,it's almost the end of 2017.
In this year,I turned into a 17-year-old girl, joined the EHP family, and made friends with more people.
Tonight(12/31),I am going to watch the live performance from news, waiting for 2018!The weather in Taipei is freezing cold these days,as a result,I would rather stay in bed than go to Taipei 101.
About my new year wishes and resolutions,I hope that I can do something which I never tried before, for example, going on a trip by myself!
When it comes to my 2017,there are so many matters I appreciate.
Much thanks to the people who always be with me♡
                                                                     Yours sincerely,Amy

letter12: MERRY XMAS !

Dear Tim,
In most of Asian countries, for instance,Taiwan,Korea and Japan,we reckoned Christmas rather as a religious festival.December 25 is a public holiday by western influence expanded lately by commercial inroads into the culture. December 25 also is an official holiday as the Constitution Day.
Additionally,Santa is called 聖誕老人 (shèngdànlǎorén) and he is often accompanied in Taiwan with his reindeer and dressed in red and white. In Hong Kong, Santa is called Lan Khoong or Dun Che Lao Ren which translates to “Christmas Old Man”.

As usual, there's a Christmas tree in the lobby of our community.

Besides the tree,we also decorated the garden by LED lights. There are two reindeer in the picture.

Last but not least,

Merry X'mas!!

letter11: NEWSLETTER!

Greetings,Tim.I'm going to answer some question.😀😊
1. What is the “liturgical calendar” of the Catholic Church?

#The calendar filled with "saints days","feast days","holy days of obligation",and"liturgical seasons".

2.Where do the “natural” Christmas trees come from, and why will  they probably cost a little more this year?

#Most of the trees are actually grown in Washington and Oregon. It takes about 10 years to grow a Christmas tree to about six feet tall.Because there was a Great Recession 10 years ago, while a lot of people didn't buy a natural Christmas tree.As a result, the tree farmer didn't plant as many new trees that year,so now there's Christmas tree shortage.

1.In Mexico, what is a “Chili”?  What is “chili” in the United States?
#Mexicans use the word "Chili" when speaking about any one of about 100 different type of peppers, which in the US is a dish.

2.What is masa?  What is the difference between masa and corn meal?
#Masa is a much finer grind ,like a regular flour.Corn meal is coarser, and may not be suitable for many recipes.

3. What is the ingredient that will determine is your salsa is “mild” or “hot”?
#Add as many diced peppers as you dare to get the degree of "spicy" that you like.

Write 4 Rights 2017!

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year. The day is normally marked both by high-level political conferences and meetings and by cultural events and exhibitions dealing with human rights issues. After reading every case about these human rights defenders,
I wrote five postcards to express my support.

It is over one year have passed since Xulhaz Mannan and his friend are brutally murdered by extremists.Although there are clear evidence and witnesses, the police still haven't investigated and brought the murderers to justice. The failure to hold anyone accountable for Xulhaz's murder has created a climate of fear among human rights defenders. They are not able to express themselves freely, live their own life in the way they wish to.

People who dedicated their own lives to defending the human rights of journalists and activists in Turkey are in danger.
Government should stop persecution of these rights defenders, they were just doing their job.

Natural resources on the world are at risk,
everyone should protect it.Without people like the Indigenous people standing up,land all over the world would rapidly decreasing. They are so brave to confront with smear-campaigns,death threats and physical assault to keep the environment from being violated.

Mahadine is a father of seven kids.He was sent into prison after posting videos online criticizing the government. He was beaten and starved of food and water these days. His health is getting worse,he needs to receive treatment without delay.I hope to urge the government to release him immediately and send him to the hospital.

When her brother,Nakiea, was gunned down by police,Shakelia took on a sluggish court system to lead a bold fight for justice for his murder. In response, the police have repeatedly raided and harassed her community.Police killings of mainly young and mostly poor men is all too common in Jamaica. It is time to end this scourge. The justice must prevail without delay.
